Information:
Produced during my A-Level Art course,
2001.
Oil on paper.
The inspiration came from Picasso's still
life of a violin whilst studying Cubism.
I was to represent an image of a violin
not as it appears to our eyes, but rather
to 'construct' it from familiar fragments,
instead of merely copying.
It was the Cubist idea that when one 'sees'
an object, in the eye of their minds they
are also thinking of its various aspects
at the same time. So by representing the
object with fragments of its familiar forms
and shapes, they felt that it showed more
of the 'real' object than any single snapshot
could ever contain.
