I have recommended it to a patient recently who has been diagnosed with ADHD and was having lots of trouble at school. His mother was very reluctant to go down the Ritalin route and was keen to try it. How do you view the evidence?

The RAS governs wakefulness as far as I know. Is it overactive in ADHD? Is the system over-responsive to external stimuli so that the attention is less fixed for any period of time? Speculation on limited knowledge. Can you elaborate?

Technically, it may be a little closer to the center of the brain (the reticular formation) vs just the right brain.

Had a great time in the Whitsundays too - we commondeered a fine sailing yacht, in a group of 21 people + 3 crew. Did some snorkelling and went scuba diving for the first time. Lovely.

Are you doing all this with the Bellorama? Hey, just wondering if anyone has a webcam with yahoo messenger? This is my new foray into internet communication. We could get a little TRB webcam community on the go!!! Let me know if/when you get one!

Great tour, wonderful sunset over the Rock. Took about a million photos. Swagged it under the stars for two nights - lovely. Off to the Whitsundays tomorrow!

Cheers for the big up, Paul, I didn't come up with the categorisation idea myself so I'll have to thank my ideas man.

Nice to see the TRB world domination map becoming more dotted. Al - I like your website, particularly the way you have categorised your photos. Love categorisation, I do.

I feel I may have interupted any flow of conversation/ideas with my science talk. Anyone still here? Still recovering from watching Open Water last night. Dark! (and wet!) Question: what would happen if Occupational Therapy merged with Feng Shui??? (Reference Dominic)

As long as it consists of a super-flashy flash animation!!! Just been reading an article about the Right/Left Brain hypothesis in Scientific American Mind magazine (really good mag, well recommended!). It's as I suspected. The right/left brain division is really not quite as clearcut as it's been made out to be. It all depends on the type of information being processed. Non-verbal images are processed for emotional content predominantly by the right side, written word by the left. Spoken word though is interesting. Whilst the word itself is processed more by the left, studies have shown that the tone (sound amplitude + vowel length), and therefore the emotional message being conveyed, is processed by the right hemisphere. The article suggests that the 'emotional right brain' and 'logical left' idea "is like a crude pencil sketch made before the full colour painting; many nuance are waiting to be added". Anyway, phew! They haven't ditched the whole idea....don't have to scrap this website just yet then!

Would it be morally wrong for me to abuse me position by also telling them about the right brain? Or possibly I'd be wasting their time so maybe I could just add it subtly to my signature on emails/faxes...

I've still got to add Lithuania and a good few more, including West Indies. We'll get round to it eventually. Should probably go to work first though.

We stayed in a hostel in St Kilda and went out there in the evening - good bars and restaurants! Also went on the Neightbours tour (I know.... not the kind of thing to admit to...) but it was quite exciting to see Ramsay Street!
