Name: Greg Date: 2004-12-05 23:40:44 Email: brucegreg@hotmail.com Message: Graham and Alison stayed with us at the weekend and they were fun. Not only did Alison keep Graham's foibles delightfully in check, but every attempt I made to drive a wedge between them (a subconscious thing that Graham later helped me discover and uproot) failed miserably. What a truly wonderfully warm and British couple they are. Before I get all warm and gushy, I'd just like to say... ah, if i could...um...I really, ahhh... well..you know... yes...
It's a long time since I've had serious stories about flies on leads told in my house. But that, and other events too many to ennumerate here, all added up to a truly mind-altering weekend. The open expression of conflicting views and the honest way in which they were dealt with, usually with Alison forcing Graham to call it a night, were all good.
Come back soon you wild and nutty kids. Graham, your classically English life drawing sketch will live long in my memory. Hope you're enjoying the North. We'll have to have another ipod and art night sometime this week, if you think you can handle our extravagant lifestyle.

I know that you celebrate Christmas but I didn't know that there would be Christmas trees all around Bangkok. Alison and I really can't imagine where they would be. I'm sure architecture will get a little easier as time goes by, don't say goodbye and keeping trying! The weather in Auckland, New Zealand, where we are at the moment has been rainy ALL day but we spent most of it in a Chinese restaurant and in a bar made of ice, with ice glasses and the temperature was -7 degrees inside. Happy Christmas to you and Benz!!! Belle - sounds just like your kinda place, Roma. How great would it be to live on Whyworry Street. Sounds like a Mr Men book! What's all this Paul about updates to TRB? What have you got in mind? Be nice to have something new. Had a cool night with Greg and Linda tonight. Paid them for their hospitality by exposing them to some badass music. Alison had to stop my assault by diplomatically defending their human rights. Better get my human right for sleep now. Take it easy all! PS: Just got to settle an argument once and for all before Al and I call in the lawyers. Y'know the fly and lead story, Paul, was that actually true or just an idea?

Sorry to hear that - and it seems such a short amount of time! So where are you guys now? Still in Oz or in New Zealand now? As for my stint in the sticks, things are going well so far. Nice break from busy Brisbane, if you ask me. And you are. As for world politics, I feel a little like I've been in a vacuous glass bubble for a few weeks, only without the suffocation and glass. I think it's because i haven't seen/hear/read any news for a while.... Adding some improvements to the site actually. Hopefully should see some changes soon.
Name: Graham Date: 2004-11-30 11:30:28 Email: Graham@thedepartedcamper.com Message: WE'VE SOLD OUR CAMPER!!! Which is good but also really sad. We can't believe it's gone. There are so many possessions that we once had which are missing now, like our toaster, chairs, table, (little used) boogie board...feels odd, kinda light like we could just float off if it weren't for the backpacks keeping us pinned to terra firma. As for the world, that's definitely a different and much more troubling story. I couldn't help but feel a little satisfaction that the UN has just put the US in it's place on Iran though. That's some hope. Anyway, gonna find an electronic music club tommorrow night for some intricate sounds. Let the good times happen and frequently please!
Name: moderately concerned Date: 2004-11-29 13:21:32 Email: Message: it's great what a random drs-mess-lunch-break search can find. like the site! will send some of my new pictures to you soon. i would like to get some world-weight off my shoulders while i'm here if that's ok. please let me know if i'm right out of place. i've been thinking and reading about global events a lot lately as i realised that i actually know very little in the way of fact. i'm not excessively political, don't like preachy people and hate wacko and colourful conspiracy theories, mainly because i believe that the concept lends itself very well to deflecting genuine searches for the 'truth'. it's almost a reflex in society for people to make accusations of paranoia if you don't go with the mainstream view of 'the war on terror' or the wars in iraq/afghanistan, for example. anyway, though no-one can deny saddam was a vicious oppressor with blood on his hands, we do know that he was helped to power by the west? then when he nationalised the iraqi oil he upset america/britain. his human rights violations/genocide didn't really matter until then. US-backed kuwait overproduced oil to undercut a war-torn iraq after the conflict with iran and provoked it deliberately to attack. when iraq consulted the US, it was public knowledge at the time that the US stated that it wasn't their business. obviously they changed their mind and around 120,000 people were wiped out/iraq was flattened. only 7% of bombs were guided, the rest indiscriminate. this is documented fact, not weird-ass conspiracy mayhem. iraqi soldiers were 'marketed' as people who 'took babies out of incubators' which was later proved to be a PR stunt. this convinced the US population that it was a moral war. marketing a potential enemy as a threat to your population/world peace-stabitity is a widespread tactic used across the globe to rally the masses and 'engineer consent' for military action, it's an old trick. (i'm sorry for ranting but had to get it out) this kind of cold logic is what we, as a comfortable western population, are not being told. i'm not sure i really want to know at all because my faith in our leaders' acts as righteous in some way was nice, but i don't want to be led like a sheep either. anyway, better get back to work. i'll get you those pics soon. hope i haven't spoiled the chat-page. sorry again.
Name: Insomnigra Date: 2004-11-28 16:23:30 Email: Graham@thewrongsleep.co.uk Message: PAUL - how's it going for you (and you Bellarus!) in your alternative Aussie work placements??? Good, I hope! Is it tough? Yeah, sad to leave Tassie and losing our trusty cuboidal steed. Would love to have spent more time there chilling out with m'cuz and also camping for free in places like 'The Bay of Fires' which was one of the most picturesque beaches I've ever seen. Even though it wasn't really hot, the sky was so blue and the water was just like liquid ice...ummm...we had to swim in it. Actually, Alison lost at cards in a 'best of three' match so she had to run in while I reserved my right of veto (until she dragged me in by the pelvis, leaving claw marks in the sand!) My theory about Tasmania is that it actually has the surface area of the Australian mainland; all it needs is for someone to iron it out. Getting from A to B is much easier for crows. Anyway, better get some sleep. I think it's provided in the next room. Just gotta know where to look. Sionara.

We've cleaned it up so well today that I don't want to sell it at all any more but I know I have to. (Sheds a tear) We ended up spending six hours on the lil beaut. It became a total labour of love and a big thankyou for getting up a zillion miles round Oz without a scratch, physically or emotionally. This is gonna become maybe the first "Ode to a Camper". Right, it would be great if you know someone who wants it. We want to ensure that it goes to a good home...only prob though is the logistics of the deal. We're in Melbourne now and gonna fly out on Friday morning. Is your friend in Sydney? We need to get some new pads for the front brakes in the morning and were gonna go and distribute our funky posters. We've got to get in touch ASAP, Vix; I'll email you my cousin's phone number if I can't get through to you in a few minutes. Just watched 'The Italian Job' and I'm all fired up!

Today I'm off to Cherbourg for four weeks doing my Country Relieving term! A bit scary - I'll hopefully keep you posted about what it's like. And Gra - sorry to hear about the end of your road trip, I bet you'll miss that little beauty when it's gone. Have fun in Tassie.

Was just feeling a little bleak about the future at the time. Just a quick 'hello' message. Just waiting in St Kilda, in Melbourne, for the overnight ferry to Tasmania. Well excited about it but sad that our mainland Australia roadtrip has now come to an end. When we get back from Tassie, we have to put all our efforts into selling our little yellow van. Anyone wanna buy a camper??? Please!!! (PS: there is such a thing as the Right Whale...it's a bit more square than a Blue Whale and a little smaller. Dreamt I encountered an ugly whale in the sea last night.)

We're in ORANGE now after wading our way over the Blue Mountains, which were spectactular even though a lot of water was coming out of the sky. Orange is bigger than I remembered from our elective, the psych hospital was the same though and we might go and see a dog show tomorrow! Cheers for letting us stop at your flat, Vix. We were gonna trash it before we left but you were there...bugger. Sydney was cool. Felt that we lived it up a little too much for the budgeteers that we are, but you gotta let go sometimes, I s'pose. Melbourne Cup was cool...but there were too many horses running around. (Actually it was boring but exciting that Benny won some cash!) How's life post-Gra:Al-invasion, Shafe M'lafe? Belated happy Halloween to our good friends in Thailand! Have the Yanks exported that one to you too??? How's your job going, Son? Message to Neil and Steve - where the hell are you guys??? I mailed you (maybe not to the right addresses though, but drop me a line!) That goes for you quiet Hereford folk too. Anyway, ramble ramble, bye!
