Dear Fred,

It’s been a very long time since I heard from you. I came across your book- Dinners from the Deep South while I was browsing in the cyber-café yesterday. I understand you’re now based in England working for the Wellcome Trust Centre for human genetics, University of Oxford. Congratulations!

I still remember those dizzy days of our youth in medical school. We all eventually graduated and all became specialists. I eventually proceeded to do residency programme in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Though a challenging field of medicine full of litigation from patients, it is still a very interesting area of medicine. Michael is also an Obstetrician while Johnson is an ophthalmologist. We are all based here in Nigeria.

The other day, I was listening to a radio programme where an international correspondent sought to find out the reason why hysterectomy is not a treatment option for advanced carcinoma of the cervix in a medical programme in Ethiopia. A colleague from Italy called in and gave his contribution. Immediately after he finished, another colleague from Bangladesh called and so did other doctors from all over the world. At the end, it was clear to all that listened why......
