I was the moon
That lit your darkened nights,
You said we’d scale the heavens
Reaching unseen heights.
The stars seemed to shine
For us alone,
I thought you had opened your soul
As I had bared my own.
I swam in a sea of deceitful calm
Seemingly just ripples on a pond,
Until the waves came crashing in
Determinedly one by one.
The nights became dark again
I had lost my source of light,
The more and more I searched
The harder I had to fight.
The answers were elusive
As I grappled with my mind,
And now as I try to let it go
I pray that peace my heart will find.
